What is your New Year Resolution?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Mine are:
-study more
-less time on computer/tv
-be more outgoing/hang out with friends more
-exercise & eat healthy so i can hopefully have a smokin hot body for college and mexico 🙂
-Get a 5 on my 2 AP tests
-actually comprehend what I learn
-not sleep so late on weekends & get my 8 hours every night
-get organized
-save my money
-stop overly stressing
-volunteer work

Some would say that there is a negative correlation between #4 and #5.

In fact, I made a graph to demonstrate this for you:

graph.jpg

graph is fairly right but flawed when approaching 100% with 0 hours. otherwise its all good hahaha

It seems like a lot of people are saying exercise and study more. I already lift weights and run quite frequently, also I got accepted.
So, my resolutions are better dental hygiene and more alcohol. Maybe get a few more tattoos and masturbate more before my inevitable 4 years of hard studying.

WHAT???
How can you have better dental hygiene if you drink more sugary alcohol?
By the way, no one wants to hear about masturbation. Keep it to yourself. (That was another great pun brought to you by PharmDstudent.)

i guess ill see you in hell!

I would like to loosen up, I can not seem to just relax. I miss out on a lot with my kids because I can't just enjoy the moment.

I want to help my family declutter, making our house more comfortable to live in.

Yeah, I'd like to loosen up more too. My stiffness in social situations probably is due to something different from your reasons but I want to have some fun before working the eight-hour per day grind.

1. Only buy a coffee twice a week
2. Buy as much locally grown organic food as possible = stay away from processed, fake industrial food

1. drive slower, not so crazy
2. be nicer to people
3. start reading the text book before lecture
4. drink less coffee
5. be on the internet less

1. To work more.
I don't really know if this is possible, but I'm so grouchy and cranky when I don't have money to play with. I like to socialize, but that becomes difficult when I can't afford to go to certain places.

2. To get my IPPE hours done as soon as possible.
80 hours a semester for an IPPE rotation is killer for someone who wants to work more at their part-time job.

3. To attend more cycling classes at the gym.
I enjoy hanging out with my friend, and the work out is nice too.

4. To stress out less at work during the semester.
I am really bubbly, pretty nice, and almost silly when I don't have school. Hopefully I can carry that attitude into the semester.

5. To make a higher GPA than last semester so that I can raise my overall GPA from 3.456 to 3.5+.
I really want an "A" average for pharmacy school! I think this means that I'll have to quit SDN until May 😳. It worked last semester.

LMAO!

I don't do new years resolutions because I find that I've changed them by the 5th of Jan. However, I'd really like to weigh 150 and be around 5% BF by June.

Also, I've gotta do better on my biochem final. I'd also like to get the campus construction project I'm a part of funded by the end of April. Good luck, right?👍

Oh and BTW, where in the rules do you have to keep it to yourself?

You don't really have to keep it to yourself, but I don't want to know all of the TMI details like frequency, time of day, etc. In fact, technically, you would be ruining a good moment if you were forced to practice that alone. BUT...
Please don't tell me! I don't want to know the details!

I am very motivated by last year's resolution which was to learn to cook, and to cook 1 new meal per week. I did successfully learn to cook throughout the year and I am glad I did!

This year I have a few different ones:

1. Raise my GPA to a 3.8
2. Go to school early 2 days a week to work out in some way. I don't need to lose weight but I do think that maybe running on a treadmill or swimming would help me destress a bit.
3. Get a massage at least every 2 months. We have a local college of massotherapy that does 1 hour massages for $26. I am always so stressed.
4. Remember that even though I am ready to focus 100% on school for the next few years I am still a mom and a wife and those roles come first.

Good luck to everyone!

I'm not into resolutions anymore. That was soo high school, jk.

But it would be nice to save money(spend less on clothes), get through pharmacy school, find a bf before I start pharm school haha. Umm, eat less salt. I think I'm on the verge of a heart attack. 👎

It's hard for me to be realistic about what I can expect from myself in the new year, hence the two categories of 'goals' for this year:

Shoot for: Work out 3x/week (or more) including weight training
Accept: Work out 2x/week consistently whether I feel like it or not

Shoot for: A's in both biochemistry courses
Accept: B's or higher

Shoot for: Bringing my grocery budget down by 15%
Accept: Maintaining it at its current level (no higher!)

Shoot for: Bringing my BMI down by two points
Accept: Bringing it down one point

Shoot for: Donating blood every two/three months
Accept: Doing it twice a year

Not too many goals, but I have to wonder how many of them I will actually stick with... Good luck to everyone with your resolutions 🙂

Do you feel lightheaded when you donate blood?
I've never donated before, but I would like to.
Any suggestions?

I've thankfully never been lightheaded after donating. They make sure that you lie down or recline while donating, and then remain lying down or seated for at least five minutes afterward to make sure you feel all right. After you're finished, they give you juice and a cookie to raise your blood sugar and rehydrate (at least, I always figured that's what it was for). Actually taking the blood takes about 20 minutes, and it's 45-60 minutes total when you add any wait time and the questionnaire you have to complete before donating.

I don't really have any suggestions of my own, but here's a good checklist about how to make the donation process pleasant. I hope you'll consider it-- it's a great feeling!

Drink through a straw or drink something like gin. Lower sugar and ethanol kills germs.
Also, good pun.

Thanks for the reply!
I checked out the link, which was pleasantly informative. Now, all I have to do is find a bloodbank nearby. I'll probably get my friend to pick me up afterwards (in case I get lightheaded).

-Maintain my grades and raise my GPA
-Exercise more
-Try to make friends and work on my social skills
-Take the PCAT
-Smile more 🙂 and get out of the dark by going out more than staying in to study all the time
-get into pharmacy school

--Good luck to you lonely guys going into pharmacy on finding a date!
It's hard to go out already with these hard courses.

I am not a English pro, but I don't think that's a pun. Double meaning yes, pun no.

I've always known a pun to be some sort of play on words. Double meanings could be considered wordplay.

I wasn't an English major either, so I'm not the expert.

Ok Knickerbocker, here's the "double meaning": Since masturbating is done to oneself, "keeping it to yourself" would be necessary by definition. You can find the definition that I am referencing here: http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/masturbation. In addition, I had asked the poster to "keep it to yourself", because I didn't want to hear any addition information about their masturbating habits.

I got the double meaning. I just still don't see how it was a pun:

pun: an expression that achieves emphasis or humor by contriving an ambiguity, two distinct meanings being suggested either by the same word (see polysemy) or by two similar‐sounding words (see homophone).

Examples:
What happened to the butcher who backed into his meat grinder? He got a little behind in his work.

Baloo (a bear): "look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities....".

So... it looks like you know more about puns than I do. If you figure out what my statement was, please let me know. It's escaped me.

That part about ambiguity is ambiguous. Ambiguity is difficult to define, because it's an abstract concept.

Here's an example from work:
Patient experiences a bad "adverse effect" from surgery and is now a 100% insulin-dependent diabetic. He tells me that the doctor messed up his surgery. So I say, "Well isn't that sweet?"
Customer behind him says, "Yeah, sweet like too much glucose. You know, it's a little diabetic pun."

Anyway... I'm just a pharmacy nerd. English nerds would probably beat me into a pulp for not knowing the difference between a pun and whatever that "keep it to yourself" statement is.

"keep it to yourself" would only be a pun if "it" also meant my member.
I feel partially responsible for this mental masturbation disguised as an argument. People were honestly trying to converse with others about their goals to improve themselves and my off-color comment sent this thread down a very bad path. However, I won't retract my statement, since the action itself lowers the heart rate and reduces stress. Joycelyn Elders is my hero.

For those who haven't gotten accepted yet, set a New Year resolution to become a technician, volunteer more often in the community, retake some science courses, and/or gain pharmacy work experience. Those who work hard and keep trying will be eventually be successful.

Last edited:
Drink more water and eat less junk (meaning eat more real food also to make up for the sudden lack of at least half, if not more, of my daily calorie intake haha)

- Get into UF :xf:
- Get tech job
- Pay off whats left of my debt and save the rest
- Learn more Spanish

1) To keep up previous New Year's resolution of abstaining from killing my poor liver with booze.

2) Learn conversational Spanish....hopefully my Mom will help me brushup on it.

3) Really try to go vegetarian this year.....it would really help things out for those nights cooking dinner at home with my vegetarian bf.

4) Let go of all the negative in my life. I've been through some hard times this year and I need to learn to let go of the bitterness instead of burying my feelings deep inside where they eat away at my very being.

5) Complete my first painiting...hopefully not a stick figure lol.

1) Exercise.

2) Read and watch less anime

3) Levitate.

4) Slow time down.

5) Read minds.

6) Walk on water.

1) Get into pharmacy school

2) Stop smoking

3) Exercise...I'm naturally small but the holidays and being home for two weeks has taken its toll LOL

4) Revamp my study habits...I get all A's but I think I do need to learn to manage my time better

5) Stop gambling

6) Find my MR RIGHT LOL

1. Get into pharm school!
2. Hit the gym more often
3. Learn how to play the piano. (I've always wanted to play some kind of instrument).

Current resolutions: always subject to change depending on lifes curveballs.

1. Quit smoking: I'm on my 2nd go around with chantix, and am down to about 4 or 5 cigarettes a day, just need to get rid of the habit. First time was successful for 9 months. I quit, then husband started back...didn't help my resolve any once I was off the medicine

2. Go to the gym: Eventual goal is to be there in the morning when they open at 5 before I go to work, however for now I'll start with 3 days a week for 30 minutes a day

3. Drink more water and cut out pop: I'm a diet coke/coke zero fiend! I think a little less carbonated soda in my life would be a good thing. I don't drink tea and only occasionally drink coffee, so more withdrawal issues. To be tackled after I quit smoking.

4. Embrace my new decade: Good bye 20's, hello 30's. Reality will hit when I turn on my analog tv and don't get a signal anymore (The "Big Switch" is on my birthday)

And of course I want to get into pharmacy school. If I don't get in this year I'm filling out my pharmcas in JUNE!

My goal is to most importantly is to go to college, earn much better grades than I did i highschool, obtain my fittness goals, get a job, make some money. Those are my most important ones anyway.

I make one resolution that I know I can not do, that is why I have watch less anime. There is no way I can do that, I love anime to much.
I love me some anime as well. guess I'm not the only nerd.LMAO

1. Pull up a 4.0 next semester
2. Stop procrastinating way too much

My resolution is to learn to relax more and take it easy. I've been pushing myself so hard this semester and just in general that the toll that the stress has taken has not been good. I'm usually a bit too hard with pushing myself anyway so this year I'm resolving to relax more, take it easier, and just stop to enjoy things more.

1) Learning to trust
2) Have a social life - at the very least
3) Eat more healthy (control what I eat & keep track)

Admission to pharmacy school is really a given lol...I don't even consider it a resolution for many reasons.

2007 was a good year though...I met most of my resolutions

1) get at least a 90 on PCAT
2) get into Pharm school
3) Keep on exercising...(I already go to the gym everyday! 😛)
4) Add at least 2 more Louis Vuitton bags to my collection. 😀

1. get accepted to a pharmacy school
2. bring up my GPA
3. find work on campus
4. build up health-related experience
5. go to the gym.. really bad
6. help my brother get into a college
7. read the books that are locked up in the shelf and haven't been touched for a year

good luck to you all! 🙂
