So what is your projected debt including undergrad? Just want to see where I am compare to other SDNers. I have no undergrad debt but med school is going to put me 320k in the red.

Med school debt could be anywhere from 100-250k depending on where I get in. I am already 60k from undergrad.

So worst case scenario for you, you are still 10k better off than me? FML.

320k? may i ask which med school are you going to?

state school or GTFO. I love big-name institutions, but I love money even more.

$0 undergrad, POTENTIALLY $0 medical school (I plan on doing the HPSP scholarship if I DON'T get into my state school)..

70,000- undergrad
Assuming 100% loans for medical school. I have one state school.
State school- 200,000
Private school- 280,000
Also consider grad school loans are now unsubsidized, and accumulate interest while you're in school.

Undergrad 15k
Med school 34k/year (luckily I have 30k year full tuition scholarship)

🙂

Thinking about how much debt I could be in after med school scares me on a daily basis. However, I don't have any UG debt, so that's a small silver lining.

Doesn't that just change the "debt" from one form into another?

$0 for undergrad (7 years military = awesome VA benefits), potentially 0 - $70k for med school (depends on how much of my soul I wanna give to Uncle Sam...again).

Where are you going that is giving you $320k of debt? Is that including interest?

I'll probably have $110-120k of debt from medical school.

a little over 30k from undergrad/grad. Expecting ~200k for med including living expense. Hopefully lower.

Zero debt for undergrad and grad school, and zero debt predicted for med school. And yes, I'm mega-grateful for scholarships, TA stipends, and the generosity of my grandparents.

Years and years - wouldn't want it any other way.

With capitalized interest, it's looking to be about $180k for total cost of attendance after 4 years.

Looking at about $130k with capitalized interest after graduating med school. I was fortunate though in that I graduated undergrad only $7k in the hole.

(sent from my phone - please forgive typos)

Chicago treats their students well

You guys' responses make me depressed even more. I am the only one around here gonna be >300k in debt??? NOOOOOO!!!! Tufts y u so expensive???

How often is interest compounded on the unsubsidized loans?

I won't have any debt from undergrad, but oh boy will med school kill me. I'm not expecting to get any financial aid. My parents also won't be contributing since they foot the bill for undergrad and will be doing the same for my brother. I'd put it at around 200-250k in loans. Add in the accruing interest, and you have a case for me crying into my empty wallet on Friday nights.

I've read conflicting reports on how often interest is actually compounded, from daily, to quarterly, to yearly.

The rate is 6.8% apr
Unfortunately that does not help determine the compound period. The more often our interest compounds on these loans, the higher the effective annual interest rate will be. Our EAR's are likely higher than 6.8% and probably more like 6.9-7.0%

Combining undergrad and med school is a little more than $100k total. May seem low compared to many but 6 figure debt is still scary.

215 K w undergrad included. That's not even the super depressing thing. Check out the payback plans... 2,100/month for ten years (during residency that'd be like half of your salary)... or basically less than that... for your entire life hahaha.

I'm sorry--I thought you had a full ride to Chicago? I thought I saw that on your old MDapps? Surely cost of living with rent isn't that high?

Anywho,

0 for Undergrad
0 for my MPH
0 projected for Med School

I invest a lot and help my parents with our corporate management thus they will pay for everything.
