Should I take my graphing calculator with me?

Im at SCCO and they recommend a scientific calculator. i believe for the boards, you cannot use a programmable (graphing) calculator.

One calculator that I recommend is the TI-30, which a LOT of my classmates seem to have, which was recommended to us.

I use a TI 30 XIIS. It's like my best friend in optics class sometimes.

The TI-30 series is the only calculator we're allowed to use for exams at school. I believe it's also the series required for the Boards.

Definitley get a TI Calculator..they are the only ones you can use for boards 🙄

hm,

I didnt know you can use a calculator for the boards....

eeeeeek! Can you imagine running out of batteries in the middle of the test?
Its strange as for other exams like the MCAT, OAT, DAT, PCAT, none of those exams let you use a calculator... 😛

In one of my optics classes, you couldn't use a programmable calculator (one you could store formulas and definitions in)... I just use a regular scientific one!

At ICO, you can only use a TI-30 series. That means you could use a TI-34 or whatever, as long as it is a 3x. That is also the rule for the NBEO.

As far as why you can use a calculator on the NBEO, and not on any of the admission test is very clear. At least for the MCAT and OAT, the math is relativly basic algebra. Most of the reason for those exams is to see how you think on your feet. On the NBEo, you will be doing Optics, and they want to see if you can get the answer. They tested your math abilities on the OAt, now they just want to make sure you can apply what you learned.
