i read it in the dental forum. one of the eletrical toothbrush company came to a dental school, gave the students an intro on the brush. and everyone gets a free e-toothbrush.

so i am just wondering what kind of good stuffs that you have got so far since entered ur med. school?

Free Viagra!!

*thousands of dollars of debt
*the stench of preservative that just doesn't go away
*a seemingly constant memorization-induced migraine

oh yeah, and a white coat

A lot of pens and a lot of really nice free dinners.

Penicillin resistant Gonorrhea.

😀 i like free dinners? why did they offer your free dinners? what 4? tell me more.

I think Felipe said it best!

If mouthes didn't gross me out, and I was only interested in big bucks and lots of free time, Dentistry would be awesome. Wait a minute, what the hell am I doing, I am sure I can get over looking at decaying teeth... do any dentistry schools take transfers... j/k.

it's not exactly what you're talking about... but the other day, my preceptor gave me a reflex hammer (not a "big ticket item" like an electronic toothbrush, but still a very nice gesture and one less thing i'd have to buy -- also he only gave one to me, so it wasn't like everyone got one). then there are the pens and pads from the drug companies (which i swiped).

the dinners aren't a daily meal kind of thing... there are always events going on, hosted by the AMA, AMSA, regional medical groups, student interest groups, etc. you get food and (lots of) free alcohol.

I got a BP cuff from a pfizer rep and the sweetest pen from the Lavitra rep. The pen is folded in half and when you push a button and it "rises to the challenge".

Does anyone have "wintergreen" smelling embalming for cadavers at their institution? I heard that some schools use this and it eliminates the 5 min or so wasted for the initial "air out" period during disection.

Dozens of pens, pads, a clock, models of knees in diff. stages of arthritis, skeletal models of foot, hand, and spine, 7 electric mugs (push a button and it stirs), clipboards, tape dispensor, reflex hammers...

At BU, if you search around, there is always free food.

yea its one of the most expensive schools, and i think I know where that $$ is going - they do a dam good job of catering events, and it seems they will do it for almost any group, meeting or whatever

yeah, free food is great. We seem to get it all the time for all these organizations and interest groups like AMA, intenal medicine interest group, surgery interest group, etc.... If I would have taken advantage of it I could have gotten free lunch every day this week.............that's nice when the loan money starts to dwindle

I like free stuff that doesn't involve batteries...

now, that is what i want to hear. so many free goodies. SEVEN e-mugs. why did they give you so many...
any major stuffs?

Early on, lots of things...pens, cups, clocks, etc. Now it's the occasionally drug lunch, a pen or two when mine run out of ink, and maybe the Sanford Guide/Tarascon's.

free lunch and dinner about four or five days a week, some pub nights hosted by pharm reps or student interest groups, tshirts, bags, some ridiculously stupid books, all the free softward you could dream of, discounted high-speed internet access, pens pens pens pens, pedometer, little zippy things for our id's, a chapstick keychain, more free food, candy, lots more candy, gift certificates to go out to movies/shows/bars/dinner;

did i mention there are about 10 hospitals in walking distance and pharm reps seem to think med students are a good investment?

Our first year, we all got free stethoscopes. Most people sold them on ebay for about $200 and pocketed the money. It was definitely shady and was not allowed to happen again.

wow.

what is "softward?" did you mean "software?"

do you know what kinds of free things that u will get during 3rd and 4th years? 🙂

i am here at a carib. school, so we don't have any pharm reps to shower us with gifts. 😳 free lunch and dinner about 4 or 5 days a week! wow. 😍 which med. school do u go to?

sorry i meant software; nice to not have to buy any for new laptop 🙂

also, my school has a great deal with dell, i ended up paying about 20 percent less for a new latitude; and got the 4 year complete warranty 🙂

along with about 3 free lunches a week on average (depending on how many clubs you have time for/belong to) we got free littman cardio III stethoscopes - i think we're the 1st class to get that here. it was pretty amazing, even if i have no real idea (or occasion) how to use mine yet...

surge, i can't believe the ppl in your class sold yours! 🙁 what did they do when they actually needed it? seems like a shame.

To the people getting the free stethoscopes, is it your school or a school-affiliated organization giving them to you, or are drug companies giving them to you?

yea, if the school gives you free stethoscopes, that doesn't really consider free since you paid lots of tutition.

i heard, I think, Duke U. now starts to give all new students a new laptop free, of course, every student has to pay about 30,000 tution.

yes, "included" doesn't equal free... '

included: things like those ridiculous "on doctoring" books, handouts for class, access to wifi, our COAT, lockers, etc...
