i posted this message in the allopath forum, got a bunch of answers. i wonder if the dos are being treated equally?

I read it in the dental forum. one of the eletrical toothbrush company came to a dental school, gave the students an intro on the brush. and everyone gets a free e-toothbrush.

so i am just wondering what kind of good stuffs that you have got so far since entered ur med. school?

I just got a big kick in the groin on an anatomy test does that count?

Countless dinners at 4star restaurants, pens, clocks, free samples, pads of paper, highlighters (could be counted as pens), pen lights, letter openers, paper weights, pharmacopea(s), etc. Dont know what Ive done with most of it.....could care less, only the dinners are the really cool crap, although any Viagra product sells nicely on Ebay...gotta love what NASCAR fans are willing to pay!!!

Need some OMM? (You know I'm kidding cause the groin is nowhere near the rotator cuff and that's the only thing I know).

I've gotten a couple of drug reference-type things...nothing terribly cool yet. Oh wait! I had lunch with a drug rep yesterday. Anytime you can get free food is a good time.

And the dean gave us coffee cups so we wouldn't make a mess in the lecture halls.

No toothbrushes though...........just stuff to keep us from making a mess.

not many people replied to this topic, i suppose that DO students really don't get many goodies as the allopathic students.

Yeah, don't go to osteopathic school; we don't get free goodies. 🙄

Huh? 😕

Yeah, we are the neglected children of the medical profession

(BTW, I think I replied to your post in the allo forum)

I have gotten an endless supply of pens, reflex hammers, pen lights, note pads, pharmacopias, Sanford guides, and many free dinners at really expensive places.

But the nicer things I have gotten are books: Ferri's Guide 6th ed., Crush Step 2 by Brochert, some Infectious Disease Book, A Fetal Monitoring guide for my wife, and Clinical Dermatology 4th Ed. by Habif.

Drug reps are great, especially the hot chicks, and especially since most of the time I already use their drug anyway.

Drug reps don't care if you are DO or MD - both will be writing rx. If you don't believe me, why are there drug advertisement in the JAOA and "The DO", etc

Most of the real goodies will come 3rd and 4th year. Less opportunity during the first 2 years. However, if you go to medical conventions (regional or national), you will certainly get goodies - pens, candies, books, highlighters, tapes, free drug samples, clip boards, shirts, more cool pens, paperweight, stress ball, penlight, stethoscope light, pediatric stethoscope cover, rulers, etc.

Don't worry about free stuff - there will be plenty of opportunity to be harass by drug reps and get free stuff (whether in med school or out in clinical practice - esp in outpatient settings)

If you want free stuff.. you will find a way.

I go to 3 to 4 cardiolgy Conferences a year and they make sure I never run out of pens and other goodies. My flash drive and coffee thermos cup.. not to mention all those great meals...

Lots of drug rep dinners.... dozens of pens... a complete neuro test kit... BMI calculator magnet... lots of magnetic clips... a few pen lights... bunch of note pads... plastice cup... pocket PDR... mousepad. That's all I can think of for now.

Pens, pens, more pens, and sometimes a meal during a lecture.
