What kind of time off is allowed in residency other than medical leave?

Just wondering if one of the program directors can help me understand- if a resident is having personal problems such as divorce, can he/she ask for time off to make things work?

They can always ask. The PD is in no way obligated to grant it, and the resident should expect to graduate late in the case it is granted.

Medical leave can be used for psychological concerns as well.
