What kind of volunteer experience do they look for?

Hello🙂

I was just wondering what would be considered an "amazing" volunteering profile.
I havent done that much volunteering yet, I am jsut finsihed my freshman year and I am going to start to. so far i have done volunteering with athletes, grad stuff in high school, and i am just starting the big brother big sister program.

I am going to try to shadown an optomotrist later on...

but anything else you guys can think of?

Worry less about the volunteering....worry more about your GPA, OAT score, and shadowing ODs in various practice settings.

Howdy! I am glad you're starting early because it will show your passion and commitment toward the profession. Well I volunteered in 4 organizations over my undergraduate years and shadowed 7 optometrists (overkill but good). The volunteering consisted of aiding the homeless, elderly, and the less fortunate. It is also important to hold officer positions in those organizations to prove your leadership skills. I hope this helps!
