Hi everyone, I got accepted to pharm school for fall 2006. I want to spend the summer and relax before I start pharm school. On the other hand, I also think there are things that I could do, but I'm not sure what is out there? does anybody know if you can start an internship if you haven't officially started pharm school? how does all that work? any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

You are probably too late to get into a formal intership program for this summer. Most places have already interviewed and offered their positions. You might do well to get a pharmacy tech job. The experience will be good for you. Some places will pay you the pharmacy student rates even though you haven't started your first year yet.

Most internships require completion of P1 year. You can still try for a pharmacy tech job, but you probably won't be paid the pharmacy student rate until you actually start pharmacy school.

You do understand that in order to be an intern, you need a permit from your state. In order to get the permit, you need to be at least starting pharmacy school. We wouldnt want 3 year olds giving advice to people on how to take their meds now. .

In some states you don't need to have actually started pharmacy school, just been accepted to a program.

That's the case in SC.

It would be good experience for you if you need a job anyway, but I would take this opportunity to relax and not think about drugs as it will be all you think about for...well for the rest of your working life.

Right now I'm really wishing I could scrap my tech job for the summer and sell Ben and Jerry's at the beach instead 😳

Hey we can't all know every little detail about each state. I just know that since colorado is one of the states that only requires that you've been accepted.

Unless you need some extra spending money, don't bother. The school is going to put you at a pharmacy in the community for EPE (early practice experience) twice a week for no pay anyway. You'll want your schedule open. 😀

Have fun. Most likely it'll be your last summer that you can have free time.
