What percent of applicants do you think use SDN?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How many have ever looked at this site before in some way or another? Has to be 90+%

How many have ever created an account? Maybe 20%

How many use it with any regularity(ie 50-500 posts)? Maybe 5-10%

How many use it rather frequently(ie >500 posts)? <2-3%

I often tell my friends about this site and they give me blank stares. They are also applying this cycle and its sorta shocking that people go into this process without SDN's help.

Idk about the general forum but from the school specific threads I would estimate about 10%. 3 people posted they got waitlisted/accepted/rejected? Its probably 10x that number.

Using my school as an example, out of the number of applicants, I'd guess a number equally approximate to 10-15% of applicants were active on the school-specific thread. MANY more I know of were lurkers.

I myself really didn't use SDN much until I was getting ready for interviews.

most applicants I've met at interviews say they read it, probably most dont post though

Yeah, agreed. It seems well known, but using it is a dirty secret. Tons of information can be gleaned without posting. I'd venture to guess boredom and neuroticism motivate 95% of premed posters here

no one wants to admit to being the yuppy premed

Didn't lurk or join before acceptance. Really regret it. Reputation at my school was sort of "stay of it" will make you crazy. Really regret not following earlier. i tell all pre med to get on asap, but be discerning and judicious lest you drive yourself insane.

Premeds at my school acted like they never heard of SDN but I know they were definitely on it considering how much crap our premed advisor gave out

Throughout undergrad I knew nothing about sdn except that it was that website that came up every time I searched something related to med school. Didn't use it for anything during school.

Then I joined when I applied and was really bored during my gap year. I'll probably stop posting once I'm off to school.

So sdn likely doesn't represent a huge amount of pre-meds (but I agree that almost all pre-meds have stumbled onto this site at some point. It's impossible to avoid)

My undergrad actively discourages people from using SDN, citing that fact that "anyone can post on there even if they have no idea what they are talking about".

Ironic, because the pre-med advisors there really don't know what they are talking about.

SDN is with the top 1,000 websites in the US in terms of traffic/unique visitors with over 100,000 daily unique visitors and 2.5 million a month.
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/studentdoctor.net
Lets assume 1/2 are automated bots so about 1.25 million a month.
Lets also assume 1/3 of SDN are non premeds (PA, PT, etc), So that is about 800,000 a month.
Lets also assume 1/2 are multiple devices (smartphone, laptop, iPad) so 400,000 a month

How many "premeds/meds" are there?
With US MD/DO schools and off shore, there are about 100,000 students enrolled
Any cycle in the US is about 100,000 with some 60,000 total applications actually submitted.
Lets say 300,000 freshman come in saying they are premeds.
Lets half remain by the end of sophomore year at 150,000

So in any moment
100,000 med students
100,000 "applicant stage"
150,000 "sophomore" premeds
300,000 "freshman" premeds
50,000 "other" premeds just to cover misc

That's a population of 700,000 "premeds/meds" with 400,000 viewing
That 57% as @Green Grass stated previously

This is awesome.

Holy crap. Makes me think I should be more careful about staying anonymous.
