Other than what's formally required, what recommended prereqs have you tacked on?

I've taken human A&P (among other animal physio courses) , genetics, microbiology, nutrition, and cell bio. I have some room in my schedule next year for others, but I'm debating whether it would be better to take difficult courses like molecular bio or biochemistry and risk getting a B or a C, or if I should stick with easy-A stuff that will inflate my GPA since I've already gotten consistent A's in a number of upper-division bio courses.

None, unless neurobiology counts? I didn't decide on the medical route until last year (my junior year). I won't even have time to finish all the pre-reqs before I graduate (taking Orgo II this Summer).

I'm going to have some loans to pay off from undergrad, so staying for a 5th year and taking more science classes won't work for me right now.

Biochem has become required at enough schools that if you have the room it's probably a good one to take -- it's also on the recommended list at most schools even if it's not mandatory.

Is it pretty much essential to take organic chemistry before biochem? O-chem is listed as a pre-req for the class, and I've only had minor exposure to it. I'll be taking O chem in the fall and plan to start studying it over the summer, but that probably won't give me enough of an understanding to conquer biochem, will it?

There is no such thing as "recommended pre-reqs".
Being a 'pre-req' means that it is required - they aren't merely recommended, they are mandatory.

Now concerning what "recommended coursework" was taken.... Biochem and stats.
😀

Haha, ok, bad wording.

Not all necessarily recommended, but...
