What resources to use for CARS?

Hi everyone!

I know that practice is the key for CARS section on MCAT. From what I've gathered by reading on SDN is that AAMC CARS Volume 1 and Volume 2 is great to practice passages for CARS. But, I also want to use another source to practice for CARS. Which books do you guys recommend that match the level of quality and difficulty with AAMC (Kaplan, TBR, TPR, etc.)?

Start with EK 101 verbal passages -> EK 101 CARS passages -> TPR Hyper-verbal CARS (if you can afford it on eBay/amazon) --> AAMC Q packs --> Full lengths.

Do passages every day and review them

I second the use of the EK material, either verbal or CARS to prepare for the test. But I cannot stress enough how important it is to do all the AAMC material. A lot of the passages in the question packs are from old practice tests and correlate very well with what you will see on the actual MCAT.

AAMC Q-packs are the most accurate in totality.
in my opinion, other than AAMC...
NS108 and EK Verbal (old text) have the most representative question types (not necessarily passages)
EK 101 (new text) have the most representative passages (not question types)

Real books/ Seriously! Try to read a book every week or two before your exam.

Reading books is almost always a good thing, but to gain any significant benefit for CARS, you have to apply the skills tested. This isn't always the easiest thing to do, especially if you are reading something you enjoy. As long as you force yourself to identify the key ideas and ask questions about why the author is making the argument, you can improve your CARS skills regardless of what material you use. This applies to most skill learning. If you wanted to learn a martial art, the best training is in settings designed specifically for that purpose. You can, however, work on the skills at home in front of a mirror, employ visualization, or do other physical training that improves your overall fitness. The key element is how much work you put into developing the skills.
