I need some advice… I applied to medical school last year with a 504 and 3.97 GPA. I graduated undergrad in 2022 with a strong background in basic science research and focused much of my time and effort in the lab where I compiled manuscripts, presented my work at conferences, and was actually a third author in a publication.
I didn’t receive any interview invites from MD or DO. Granted, I only applied to 2 DO and had no shadowing experience with a DO. Since the last cycle, however, I have increased my clinical hour experience to 2000 + hours, working as a clinical research coordinator and phlebotomist, and I have extensive hours now volunteering with women who have been incarcerated, teaching them life skills every weekend. I also have experience volunteering in a refugee clinic, so I have a deeper understanding of the disparities faced in my community. The amount of physicians I have also shadowed since last cycle is six in comparison to the one that I shadowed prior to submitting my application last year. I also have two letters of recommendation from physicians this time around, something I didn’t have before.
I hired an advisor and they strongly advised me to retake my MCAT if I wanted to be competitive, so when March came around of this year, and I realized that I was probably not gonna have a chance with any medical school, I buckled down and began to study for my MCAT. I took it in July and just received my score today, 507. My advisor told me that my chances of getting into an MD school are very slim and that I should focus my efforts on DO. I am, an ORM female, however, I come from immigrant parents who fled a war torn country. I speak three languages.
I know this is a lot, but I just would like some advice on who to send my primaries this time around. I submitted secondaries for 3 in state schools already, but would really hope to shoot my shot at OOS MD, if possible. Please let me know what you recommended for my situation. Thank you!!!

You should have solid chances for both MD and DO. Your adviser is uninformed if they are saying it is slim for you because 52.7% of applicants with your stats get into MD. You should probably have 50% MD and 50% DO to avoid another reapplication.

Follow the WAMC format to get more feedback. What is your state of residence?

Thank you so much for your input. I will update with the format
Where is your state of residence ?
Arizona

Given your research and non-clinical volunteering, I feel like the following MD schools are in play. But wait until Faha or Goro can respond, too. I'm not well-versed in DO schools, so I cannot provide a list of those.

AZ Tucson
Wake
TCU
Tulane
Belmont
Albany
Vermont
MCW
RFU
Nova
Drexel
Wayne
Quinnipiac
Temple
Penn State
SLU

Rush (depending on non-clinical hours, Rush expects several hundred to thousand)
George Washington
Alice Walton (when it opens)
Rosman (when it opens)
