I am in the process of completing my second bachelors in Biochemistry. I have increased my sgpa from a 2.67 to a 3.1. My cgpa is now a 3.3x. During the year I have taken Orgo 2- A, Biochem-A, Cell Bio-A, Genetics-A, P chem-A, Calc-B,Immuno-A, Pharm-A, Patho-A

Urm
Mcat:29
EC's: Student Assistant in Pathology( 2 years), Peer Mentor, Academic Tutor( 2years), Camp counselor for children with neuro disorders.

I usually ask about my DO chances, but I'd like to know my chances for MD. Plan to re-take new mcat.

what kind of urm?

Your GPA might be a issue. You may want to look at linkage programs like the ones offered by Rosalind Franklin and George Washington and Tulane. Scoring a high GPA on a special masters program might improve your chances.

depending on what kind of urm you are, you may not have to retake mcat. what is your score breakdown?

Which community do you represent?

you don't need to retake your mcat (as long as your mcat scores don't expire) so that's good news. You may also not need to do a special master's program or linkage program.

My suggestion is that you apply to your state schools, hbcus (howard, meharry, morehouse) and other schools which have a mcat and gpa average similar to yours. Plenty of med schools would love to accept a diverse applicant like you.

Just apply early and broadly. Submit your AMCAS in June and all your secondary applications in July. Make sure you have enough patient interaction and clinical experience. Do some community service. Apply to atleast 15 schools.

You got this man.

Teaching moment! People who successfully reinvent themselves for MD schools have very good MCAT (>33) scores to go with the rising trends. A 29, in that regard, is NOT a very good MCAT score.

BUT, being URM helps. Apply broadly, and include the HBCs.

There are schools that have a large URM population so look into those. One I know of is Howard. But I recommend sticking with DO schools
