I asked one of my professors for a letter and he said, "Sure. Tell me what you want me to say about you. I'll be happy to say it, provided I think that it's true."

I did really well in his class but that's not what adcoms want to see in a letter. What should I tell him to write?

Think of any gaps that exist in the rest of your letters and ask the professor to speak about that. Or if there are any red flags in your app, ask him to address that.
