I know this is early to think about, but being competitive has only advantages (plus it might mean free undergrad tuition or acceptance to a BS/MD)

So far in high school I joined a second orchestra which I'm the principal second violinist, and then my school orchestra I'm concertmaster. I'm planning on volunteering at my library on Saturdays and the summer (I submitted an app like 2 weeks ago). I submit my scheduling plans on the 31st and the first semester is over in about a week and then I start a bunch of new classes.

My Courses and Grade (School doesn't award +/- and GT is basically honors)

Chinese II ...........A A
Latin I ...........A A
Biology GT ...........A A
Orchestra ..........A A
Gym ...........A B

Gym/Orchestra alternate each day so it's year round. All others are semester based. My Second semester should be the same but a B in gym.

So my unweighted is a 3.9 and weighted is 4.3 (all my top level courses are next semester minus bio).

Anyways to course scheduling.
I have my core courses which are all highest available minus AP.

I'm definately taking AP Stat. Question is which one do I take for my second one?

I have between these 5

AP Gov
AP World
AP Environmental
AP Human Geo
AP Music Theory

AP World is challenging and I want to take two difficult AP's and not an easy one, but I'm 100% I should take that and what should my alternatives be? My first alt was Chinese IV, the AP Human, then AP Music.

It really doesn't matter which one you do. One of the main points of an AP class is to take the AP test and do well enough to get a few college credit hours. My advice would be to take the class that you would do the best in/ the one you would enjoy the most. Don't over stress yourself by trying to take the hardest classes in high school, just do well in your classes and have fun. When you get to college you will have plenty of "hard" classes. 😀

Pick whichever ones interest you the most. You might find a good subject matter in which to major, and, at the very least, you will be happier being in such a class. Does your school allow you to take more AP courses than only 2 or to attend community college? Those might be good alternatives if you want to delve into more rigorous course or obtain a breadth of knowledge...

I think AP World would be most useful. You will probably be taking AP Gov in a later year (most take it senior year) AP World will help you if you decide to take the subject test in it, and it adds to your required core courses (all of those other than Gov/World are electives).

I was supposed to take it this year but Orchestra was scheduled at the exact same time (scheduling is a mess at my high school) so probably world. I really wanted to take Stat, and World seems somewhat boring but the best option out there.

@Lil Mick
I only have room for 2 semesters to pick in, well technically 4, but I'm not dropping Orchestra or Chinese.
4 cores
1 orchestra
1 chinese

So then two semesters I can fill. AP Stat is combined with pre-calc and two semesters. AP World History is all year and 4 outlines a week but is technically AP and GT (highest level) World History.

@Aequalitas
I said I want to get into a BS/MD, you need to be competitive. Two AP's are not too much to ask for. Also, the only other elective I would take would be this weird req. course where you basically sit in a room or chinese IV.

I'm currently a sophomore (taking Ap Biology and Ap world) so I think I can help you out a bit. But the classes available for you to pick from is different from what I have/had (for example, Ap human is only available for freshman and Ap stats are for senors)

I would recommend taking Ap World if you are actually interested in history. In my opinion, the class itself isn't that bad but it requires lot of reading and studying (we had to read 45 minutes a day). There's so many information to cover and remember. Many people have said that it's a waste of time, but i guess it all depends on your preferences.

I don't think you should take Ap music theory unless you are planning on doing something to do with music in the future.
Taking Ap human helped me out in Ap world because they kind of link together.
I haven't taken Ap gov or Ap eco so I can't really help you out on that.

Best of luck 🙂

You can take AP Bio???
My school makes the AP science/maths difficult to get into. It's the entire year and they require an A or B+ honors chemistry, no exceptions. The maths are only one semester. Hopefully I'll take it as a junior as well as Chem.

There's a chance I could take Calc AB after pre calc if my schedule will cooperate (which is practically impossible). I'll talk to my consoler to see if I can take it as an alternative if I cant match into world.

Yeah, my school allows sophomores to take it if the teachers recommend them or you somehow convince your councilor. Juniors/senors can take them if they want but a lot of them dropped out this year. Whoa, I can only take pre calc when I'm a junior.

I would suggest AP gov, if you really want to take 2 APs. Not too hard of a class/test and fulfills one of the social science requirements in a good amount of programs.

I would say only take 1 AP in soph. year, just to see what APs are like. Why 2 APs? You also might start looking at what colleges you want to go to accept and with what scores. No point in taking a class for a whole year if either they only accept a 5 or don't accept at all.

I took AP bio my soph. year.

You sound like you are doing a lot of stuff. Do you want to volunteer at the library? If you are only doing it for the college app, don't do it. Plenty of other things to do. Better relax on Saturdays.
