I just got my May mcat scores back 26: (BS 10, VR 10, PS 6🙁). I definitely dropped the ball on PS.

cGPA: 3.5
sGPA: 3.4
MCAT: 26

3.5 years of hospital/emergency room work
2+ years as a firefighter/EMT
AHA BLS Instructor
Volunteer hours at food drives and helping build a home for wounded veteran.
Shadowing experience.
Strong LORs from upper level science profs, 1 MD and 1 DO, and from Advisor/predict committee.

Work full time, wife's a full time student and have a 16 month old daughter.

Should I apply now and retake my mcat to rid of the ugly 6? Or do I wait until I have an improved score to apply?

I appreciate the advice.

I'd say apply now depending on your ECs. You are looking better than you think with that 6.

Watch out cause certain places require at least a 7 in all spots. I don't remember who but remember to do your research.

Apply, but do your research and don't apply anywhere that has a specific section cutoff.

Only retake if you're completely confident you can improve your PS score by at least 2 points without losing any in the other sections. I'd think about retaking in August after spending the time between now and then studying intensely.

I think CUSOM also requires all 7s at least.

retake. that 6 is gonna cost you!

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I want to apply to KCUMB, if I retake the MCAT at the end of July, will they send me a secondary with a planned retake (even though my PS 6 is below their >=7 min for each section)?

I would say apply and hoping you have good ECs, but as Jonny said be very careful of where to apply. Saying you this because of personal experience. I have a score of 6 in VR and still got. Will be starting this fall. Good luck.

GPA is 3.30 with sGPA 3.38. RN for 3 years, Volunteer for a pregnancy center for a year more than 450 hours, volunteer for my Mosque for more than 500, shadowed 4 docs including a DO, 1 strong letters from my science professors, 1 not so strong letters from science professor, 1 strong letter from my nursing (OB/GYN) professor, 4 strong letters from the docs including a DO. And yes I got multiple interviews and got accepted by two school. I chose LMU-DCOM.

Apply broadly and you should be fine.
