Right now I'm a premed on year 2. Over the summer and on weekends i have some spare time that I don't want to waste. What should I do with this spare time to make med school possible for me. What i mean is that I highly doubt it possible for me to just do the regular pre med stuff, (college, interships, research, emt, volunteering) and then going to med school. I'm not smart. and I know that med school is going to be literally impossible for me if I don't have a head start. Is there anything i could do now, like study this or that, to give me the headstart im gonna need? Is there anything you wish you had studied/looked at before you went to med school that could have helped you out alot?

1. Read the FAQs and the STICKIES for a start.
2. There are hundreds of pages on Google that tells you what to do.

Those old posts are a wealth of information, especially when they all agree...

The bottom line is, in medical school, you're going to cover about a week's worth of undergraduate information in a day, plus or minus a bit. That's about a month a week, or a semester in a month (rough approximations, depending on what exactly they're throwing at you). There's nothing you can do in 'spare time' that's going to make a significant dent against that. Enjoy undergrad; do your best for now; work on getting in first.

The best thing you can 'learn' now is how to study effectively, what works for you. It will help you now in undergrad as well as paying dividends when it comes time to drink from the firehose.

first off, it's smart of you to want to begin preparing this early in your undergrad career. here's some advice from a 2nd year med student

1. don't say that you're not smart, i've found that the words i say sometimes have an uncanny way of changing the the way i think about things. we all feel dumb at times, and in some situations i literally have to tell myself "how would a smarter person study this, prepare for this, conduct themselves during this, etc..." and then i do what i think that smarter person would do. haha.
2. starting now volunteer at a medical place and continue until you apply
3. work at a medical place (esp. during the summer) or shadow doctors until you apply
4. study hard and make great grades
5. study hard for the mcat and take it towards the end of jr year, early enough so that if you have to take it again you can still get your application in on time
6. apply as early as possible

those are my quick tips. best of luck.
