Hello everybody
I would like to ask you some questions.
I was a resident in USA,in Internal Medicine for about 15 months. but the residency program has closed. I couldn't find another residency program.and I got some problem in my Visa.and to be honest I am sick of the strict rule of the visa of USA😡. I am thinking seriously to move to Canada.
My Questions are: Do I need to take Canadian exams?
Can I apply to the Canadian greencard as skilled worker? or it is better to apply for Visa first?
Is there any area in Canada which has shortage for family or IM Dr?
Can I resume the residency Canada? I mean to continue as second year resident.
Thank you

Not good for you. Your best bet is to contact each of the medical schools in Canada directly. Your US experience might help for you to land a residency program. Or you will have to enter the Canadian matching system www.carms.ca Your US training is a big plus. However remember that it is much more difficult for IMG's to match in Canada than in the US.

Yes, you can apply for the Canadian permanent residence however it does not help in any way to get a residency. If you can do something about your US situation, that will be better otherwise you could get very frustrated in Canada even though you will have the permanent residence. Check this site to apply for permanent residence - www.cic.gc.ca Lookfor applying as a skilled immigrant.

thanks for your help.
Appreciated

Sounds like you really got screwed. Sorry to hear about your situation.
You need to write the MCCEE and the MCCQE.
None of your residency training in the US will count. You will have to start again in Canada. There is a shortage for all doctors in Canada (as a generalization). But there is a shortage of residency positions as well.

You will have a very, very hard time obtaining a residency in Canada based on statistics but depending on your credentials and clinical ability, you may be able to score a position.

The CaRMS website will give you the grim statistics.

Good luck!

Thank you for the reply
I think you are right.I will try once.if I didn't get a position in Canada.I would try again in USA,,maybe It gonna be easier after that.

I read somewhere, that I could be accepted as a second year resident but they have to evaluate me first.
Do you know anything about that?

Ontario have an assessment program that could accept you into the second year. It is quite a rigirous process. Check this site for more information
