I'm a non traditional student graduating this upcoming spring. I worked as a manager of a restaurant prior to going back to college. I'm planning to apply to dental school the first week of June. I recently took my DAT and my scores were:
Bio= 18
Gen Chem= 18
Org Chem = 18
RC= 20
PA= 16
QR=15
AA=18

Due to poor test taking strategies I ran out of time during my QR and PA section. I have been contemplating on applying to do one year graduate program to strengthen my application and submit everything as is on June 1st. However, I am worried that even a Master's will not overcome my DAT score. My current GPA is 3.25 and I am a double major in Biology and Chemistry. After doing research it looks as if my grades are average in almost all regards to the dental schools I am looking at. They all average taking DAT scores of 18 or 19 with mid 3.0 GPA's. Has anyone been accepted to Dental schools with similar grades? Would the master's be a good route to take without retaking my DAT or should I retake my DAT regardless. Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I'd be retaking, if I were in your position. With a GPA on the lower side, you'll need something else on your application to compensate. You could roll the dice in June with those scores, but with more than three months until the application cycle opens, I'd just as soon retake.

^^ Ditto. OP needs to prepare to go back in and murder it on try #2.

You'll have to compensate for your so-so GPA with excellent DAT.

If you are non-white/asian, that will help, too.

Whatever your race, if you depend on your current score situation, you might get lucky...but statistically you're also lucky to win the lottery big, too. I wouldn't depend on luck.

Just retake and see how you do. Forget grad program if you score 21+
