So I am 23 right now, and I am applying to medical school next cycle. I decided that I want to be a medical student after graduating from college last year, May 2016. I spent this one year working in an operating room and goofed off on studying for the MCAT. Now, instead of rushing my studying and applying late, I want to apply early next cycle. I have planned out a whole list of things I have to achieve before June 2018, but then I will have another year to do absolutely nothing before I get into medical school.

The root of the problem: I feel like I will be wasting a total of 3 years, and I feel like 25 years is too old to begin medical school. What should I do to make the most of my "GAP". I dont want to finish my three year GAP and feel like I wasted it. I am looking into Photography and beginning my own youtube channel about my fitness journey, life, and experiences.

Would appreciate the encouragement, suggestions, and critique on my path and/or age. Thanks

25 is only barely above the average age of entry. You are fine. Work, volunteer, enjoy yourself and cultivate good habits.

I promise you'll be fine. There are plenty of people in my class who don't fit the younger, party-animal persona. And I'm not the oldest by far. You will fit into whatever group most meshes with your personality - age really doesn't matter. There are 25 year olds who party with the 22 year olds, and 29 year olds who found their best friend is the mature 22 year old. My honest advice is to stop worrying about fitting it; that is not your priority, and you WILL fit in with SOMEONE.

Awesome, makes sense. Thanks again. Cheers

I started at 25 . Definitely not too old, probably not too young but 22 would have been too young for me
