This is my scenario,
I decided junior year to go to med school. I had never really applied myself all that much previously (GED and two year school), so i wanted to take it slow with all the med school reqs to make sure i didnt mess anything up. I will be graduating in may with a ba in philsosphy and managed to end up with a 3.5 (overall) and 3.3 (science) however, i have little to no clinical exp. I am planning to go to Guatemala for 4 months to get bilingual and do substantial volunteering in a clinic down there. It will be after i send my application in to schools and i am wondering if i should even waste my time (and money) applying this time around.
I really appreaciate any help that i can get.

It sounds like you'll be fine. Clinical experience is not required, it is just a plus. You may have other volunteer experience, or just compelling things to talk about in your personal statement, secondaries, and interviews. Applying is a long and tedious process for many people. You will probably never feel ready, but just make sure you have completed all of the prereqs by the time you apply. And remember, Kaplan says that Philosophy majors have the highest acceptance rate of all majors (although they have one of the lowest application rates).

Also, keep in mind that the important part is your interview. Numbers get you in the door and experiences and personality get you in. As long as you did well on the MCAT, you will likely get secondaries/interviews. Even if your 4 month Guatamela trip isn't beofre your primary, you will have an opportunity to talk about it in secondaries (when they again ask for experiences) and inteviews.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be okay.

i am not sure of all of your specific time frames of things, but if the trip/clinical experience is definite....then put it in your primary application without getting too specific. then you will be able to expound on your experiences by the time your secondaries and/or interviews come around.

i wouldn't wait...go for it now, you're not getting younger

good luck 👍
