Hi, I am a senior at competitive liberal arts college in Maine. I am positive that becoming an osteopathic physician is what I want to do with my life. I already have two letters from DO's I've interned with in the area and some volunteer experience at an osteopathic hospital. My problem is grades. I have a 3.0 GPA and about 3.0 science also. I'm taking Ochem now but I'm getting a C so I plan to retake it this summer at a state university in New York. My question is what should I do in the next one or two years to ensure admission to DO school. I've looked at masters programs such as the one at PCOM. Also when should I take the MCAT. I also would rather not take more than two years off. Thanks

I would raise that GPA (BCPM and total) to at least a 3.3, and I would make sure my MCATs were at least a 26/27. You may want to do one of those Masters programs such as the ones at BU, Georgetown, or MCP-Hahnehmann, but as I recall, PCOM has a Masters program that sorta gurantees admission to PCOM if you do well.

You should take the MCAT soon after you're done with your prereqs. Most of these premed Masters programs require the MCAT for admission anyway.

Good luck.

Tim of New York City.
