The PT school Orientation Day is coming soon. I wonder what should I wear? There will be a couple of speeches and a picnic social session following that. What should I wear? Thanks.

I dressed up for my Orientation and it was overkill. (suite and tie) Everyone else wore shorts, jeans, t-shirts. I felt like a dork. Usual rule of thumb is to wear something nice. I would say Slacks and a Button down.

I was wondering this too 'cause next week is my orientation. I would assume something nice but casual.

I understand first impressions and whatnot but dress casually. I wore a chuck norris shirt that said "I don't need a weapon...I am one" and the faculty loved it. If you're still worried, khakis and a polo is never wrong in the PT realm imo.

My orientation is coming up as well. It's hot in Sacramento during the summer and I have to bike to campus, so I'm hoping that shorts and a tshirt will be appropriate.

Casual in my opinion. You're already in so no need to impress. Just be yourself!

I guess your programs were more laid back but mine was mandatory business dress. I wore dress shirt, tie, dress pants, and dress shoes. The faculty made it clear that if we didn't wear business dress then they would ask us to leave. At my school if you aren't wearing your scrubs then you are required to wear the business dress to class - something that many of the students in my class do. Just call your program and ask them how strict they are with all that.

If I wore a chuck norris shirt on orientation day they would have asked me to never come back.

It all depends on the school. Also PharmDan2, wow, that is really strict.

Yeah few people wore T-shirts with comical print, no one minded as long as they were not offensive. One thing PT's are evaluated are on is Professionalism so keep it casual yet professional. Shorts and polo or t-shirt will do just fine. If you have to take a ID photo, I had to, then dress up and after lunch or photo ditch the jacket and tie. I speak from experience LOL

But yeah Call the school and find out 90% of the time they dont care as long as your dressed appropriately.

If they didn't say otherwise, I don't think it matters unless your school has a dress code. I wore shorts and a polo but it didn't matter. A tie would have looked out of place. If in doubt, I'm sure your school has a point of contact, email/call and ask.

Maybe my school was strict cuz its a private university? Every male wore a tie, dress shirt, dress shoes, etc...

Anyone else has any input on the subject?

If the school doesn't say, I think smart casual or just casual is the way to go. Something easy going but not too over dressed. Maybe Polo shirt with jeans and boots?
