I was wondering how I should dress when shadowing a physician. Should I wear a suit or a shirt and tie? Any input would be helpful.

msav59,
Hey, sorry I cannot answer your question but I have one for you. How did you go about getting to shadow a doctor? Did you speak with one personally or did you contact a hospital? Let me know because I think that would be a great experience for me this summer. Thanks

To shadow a doctor I just Called around until I found someone who was nice enough to talk to me and give me the opportunity,

i don't think you need to wear a suit...
maybe like nice slacks and a nice shirt.

slacks, a nice shirt, and a tie should be fine

i have a pointed white hat, along with white sheets that you can wear.

but don't borrow this stuff if you live in any northern states. In fact, only wear this in Mississippi or Utah.

Dude, that's not even remotely humorous. Save your prejudicial humor for a more appreciative audience, please.

i would say, go with what the doc wears and also with the atmosphere of the place you'll be seeing patients. I'm thinking a shirt and tie would be fine. I have friend who worked with a doctor who preferred a more relaxed atmosphere and he (the Dr.) would wear nice pants and a polo style shirt or just a button down w/o a tie.

I wore nice slacks, a shirt and tie. Keep in mind the more professional you look, the more comfortable patients will feel about seeing you.
