I am trying to figure out what I should work on to make my app better for next cycle, in case I don't get in this year.

My research is fairly strong: 700 hours, 2 publications pending for next year.
My clinical is okay: 180 hours volunteering in hospital, 80 hours from clinicals for CNA certification.
My non medical volunteering is lacking: <30 hours.
Shadowing is lacking: 10 hours.

I am definitely going to get more shadowing.
I need advice as to whether I should stop doing my research next semester so I can get more clinical experience, or more non medical volunteering. I work almost 30 hours/week as a tutor so I don't really have time to commit myself to research AND a regular volunteering gig.
any ideas?!

Self-awareness. The fact that you are even asking this question reveals issues with self-awareness.

Compare yourself to what schools say they want...

My research is fairly strong: 700 hours, 2 publications pending for next year. Great!
My clinical is okay: 180 hours volunteering in hospital, 80 hours from clinicals for CNA certification. Good.
My non medical volunteering is lacking: <30 hours. Well.... what can you be doing?
Shadowing is lacking: 10 hours. So... what are you doing about it?

700 hours across the span of how much time? That number might seem like alot, but that's before you realize that to do productive research work you should be in lab for at least 6-8 hours a week minimum.

If I really wanted to count my research hours (which no one does), I'd have around 5000 easy.

700 hours over a 1 and a half year span. I generally do 10-12 hours/week. The 180 hours of volunteering was over a one and a half year span too.
So do you think I should start some non-medical volunteering, over clinical volunteering?
I'm not sure if I can cut back hours, since it is a paid opportunity and I support myself. 🙁
