I'm trying to get some sort of software for my laptop to supplement learning. Anyone know of any great ones that's worth the money? Suggestions?

Or perhaps you are selling them?

Microsoft Office and Windows will be pretty beneficial. 🙂

I can't imagine having to do my homework using DOS commands.

I may be a little older compared to some of you kids applying out there. We were one of the first schools to start the e-curriculum. There really is no time to play around with the laptop. You are going to have your hands full with lecture notes and Review series books. So dont go wasting money buying expensive software that you think you may need. As long as you have all the MS office programs, Adobe acrobat reader and a good web browser (most of these things are basic needs of a computer operator these days) you should be fine.

Make sure you get the student price!

I'm refering to any science related software. Perhaps, Steadmans' medical dictionary, Netter's anatomy, and etc...

Nothing out there will give you an edge, except maybe previous experience in a dental Lab. Other than that all you need to do is study the material they give you.

Anybody know of any textbooks that are on DVD or where I can get some? We're not given any material and have to research stuff on our own. It'd be nice to not have to carry around a lot of textbooks when I don't want to study at home.

Yeah, ditto. Exactly what I'm saying.

One computer program the we were required to buy as part of our Dental Anatomy class is Brown and Herbranson's 3D interactive Tooth Atlas. Our class got them ~ $116, with the standard price at about $268. It's a nice resource for DA so far and has seemed to be a pretty good study aid, especially for people like me who more visual learners.

Here's a link if your interested:

We have Microsoft Office standard with our laptops. Some people use MS Onenote to take notes (get academic pricing) which is great for tablet PCs. I use Firefox as a browser now and before that Opera. Gmail. Google Desktop is great for searching through your notes, PDF books, lecture handouts, Powerpoint presentations, a previously viewed website etc. for something you're trying to remember.

Netters was useful only for the search feature, but you could just as easily use the index from the printed book. Some books like the one for Neuroanatomy come with a supplementary CD.

Brown & Herbranson made a lunch & learn presentation at our school and demoed their Interactive Tooth Atlas at our school last year. The rotating 3-D views of the pulp through a transucent tooth were impressive, but I don't know if anyone made a purchase.

The program looks nice. Anyone interested in selling it to me?

Anyone know much about the NYU CD DVD Rom that they use. I saw it before, and IT IS NICE.

It has come to my attention that you were looking at histology slides on your laptop, trying to tidy up for the bloody histology exam this morning. You very much so hurt my feelings, it was like taking tea time away in the land of the BIg Ben. I saw your wax up photos, and i am most certainly never going to let a flippered fingered flabergaster like yourself work on my teeth...and i am bloody english... God save the queen... and MR. Bean!!! 👎 :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf:
