How cool! I've never seen one before and I don't know anything about them. I did a little googling, but I'm not sure how accurate those hedgie sites are...
what do you feed them? can they be litter trained? do they need to be kept at a certain temperature range? Can they be kept with other animals (like with guinea pigs) or do they need their own space? Do you have to bathe them?
Haha this is so far from the OP's topic but...
I fed mine cat food, live and freeze dried crickets and meal worms, and whatever fruits and vegetables they would eat. One of mine also liked hard boiled egg and turkey/chicken. One of the hedgehog breeders we got a hedgie from also recommended ferret food. There are a variety of specific Hedgehog foods available in pet stores, but my hedgies refused to eat any of them; plus I read on many websites that people had a lot of problems with some of these "hedgehog foods" anyways. Overall, I don't think anyone has a clear idea of what the best captive hedgehog diet is because they haven't been kept as pets for a very long time! Also, hedgies tend to be extremely picky eaters so all three of mine got slightly different diets depending on what they actually wanted to eat
😕
They can be litter trained although none of mine were. Mine just ran on their wheels all night and pooped there. But I have heard many people who were successful at litter training their hedgies.
Temperature isn't too critical for hedgehogs -- normal room temperature works just fine and they're pretty hardy. However it can't get too cold or drafty because they will start hibernating! (my friend left hers beside a door where there was a bit of a draft and it went into hibernation)
I never really thought about keeping hedgehogs with other animals like g pigs or anything so I'm not entirely sure. However, they're solitary animals in the wild so they are perfectly fine by themselves and males generally cannot be caged together (though I know several people who kept females together) I guess you could keep a female hedgehog with another animal... though on second thought this might not work. I think most animals are scared of hedgehogs (with good reason). If I put my hedgehog on the floor with my three dogs in the room, the dogs would basically flee because they were so freaked out.
I bathed mine sometimes because they did get dirty. They're pretty easy to bathe because if you put them in water they can't roll up. You just need a toothbrush/scrubbrush to get between the spines! They're generally pretty clean though and don't require frequent baths.
