Just trying to see what worked for people in the past and if they continue it in med school.
I nearly had a 4.0 in my undergrad with some simple techniques:

I rarely went to lecture! Whenever I had an exam, I would read the textbook in addition to the lecture slides. I treated the lecture slides as supplements or outlines (whereas some of my other classmates only looked at the slides for info).
I would try to stay at least 1 chapter ahead of the professor. I would read the textbook and highlight key info. Then I would read it again and take notes. I used a combination of flashcards (depending on what class), diagrams and notes to study. Me and my pre-med friends would like to draw cartoons explaining complicated chain reactions or create mnemonics.

The key thing for me was not procrastinating. If we just finished an exam, I would start studying for the next exam like 2-3 days later. When highlighting info from textbooks and lecture slides, I would color coordinate: for example, yellow highlight meant basic info....Orange meant high priority, 100% on exam....Green meant I'm still confused, need to work on it.

My studying habits depended on the class too. Orgo 1 = extreme overstudying... I would study for an exam like a month ahead. Whereas I studied for Caribbean Culture the night before. I learned to prioritize my class based on the difficulty of the class and professor.

These studying habits landed me nearly a perfect 4.0 in both c & s gpa. I slacked off senior due to senioritis (got a few A-'s. How scandalous).

I still knew how to have fun though. I did go out mostly every weekend. Freshman - Sophomore year I went out 4 times a week. Junior and Senior year I got old and only went otu Fri & Sat. What I did was study during the day, and partied at night. While most of my friends were sleeping in, or playing video games during the day on a weekend, I was busy studying so my night would be free.

I assume I will continue these study habits in med school (minus the partying..I only imagine myself going out 3-4 times a semester). But what do you guys think? What are some of your study habits and will you continue it during med school?

Would like some feedback from actual med students too. 🙂

I agree with the color coordination. I took an information literacy class, and my professor said color coordinating helps your brain organize and prioritize information. It also helps you remember a fact more quickly if you knew what color you highlighted it. I use it all the time.
I also use diagrams/cartoons too. Sometimes I would dumb down information into a few words. These all helped me!

Are you actually a med student, as your status would indicate? Your post makes it sound otherwise.

I actually invented a magic pill that will make you know everything about medicine, and will help you score a 290 on your usmle step1... Saves a lot of time on studying

Yeah, you still have to take the COMLEX. I hope that pill works for both.

-wake up 10 am
-watch today show
-go to the gym
-go to the beach
-go out to dinner
-go out with friends
-repeat except study 2 hours night before exam day

Probably going to have to switch that up for med school

1. Read "How to Study in Medical School" by Armin Kamyab M.D.
2. I'm an applicant, not a current student but its a pretty universal theme on these boards that no matter what you did in undergrad, Medschool is a whole different level. The biggest advice I've heard (I'm an OR RN at a hospital where we get DO students every week) is that do.not.fall.behind. No matter how late it is, don't go to sleep until you have finished that days work. Tomorrow is only going to be busier.
3. If your school video tapes lectures and you're moderately disciplined: Skip class, go to the library and watch the lecture in 1.3+ speed
4. laugh at the fact you used to think you needed 6-8 hours of sleep a night 🙂
