I can imagine reasons to be curious about the race / gender / ethnicity / etc of a specific professional group that don’t actually involve some type of woke government conspiracy for us to get gender conforming surgery prior to a string of overnights.

I guess my cynicism only goes so far.
It's the next stage in forcing MOC on everyone. If you fall behind more than 1 cycle they come to your house and force gender reassignment surgery on you.

Guarantee that's the last time you don't do your MOC busywork...

Why does ABEM need to know my sexual orientation?

WTF kind of question is that? WHY DO THEY WANT TO KNOW WHO I LIKE TO F?

FOOKING RIDICULOUS.

They need to take out all these stupid gender questions.

my sexual orientation is "yes".

next question.

As with usually liberal tropes the religious refrain is "just deal with it! Move on!" And not a discussion of the actual use case of why the thing exists to begin with.

There is no reason for any professional organization to know about what I do in my private life. Period.

Why does ABEM want to know what kind of person I ****** last night? Why should they want to know?

When you see your personal doctor because of your urge incontinence, do you care who your PCP ****ed this past week?

1. You're 6 months behind on your rage over a question you can choose not to answer.

2. Five seconds of thought should be enough to conclude they are interested in whether the specialty has discrepancies in who enter the profession or in who passes certifying exams.

3. You don't even need to think, you can spend 5 seconds Googling the question and get the answer from the source:

4. Yes, plenty of people seek medical care from healthcare providers with specific demographics that make them feel more comfortable. What a ridiculous question in a specialty where female patients requesting female providers for some exams is a common topic of discussion.

5. No one has been fooled into thinking you're actually too stupid to have figured any of this out. It's obvious you're just mad about initiatives aimed at DEI and LGBTQ concerns.

I care along with tens of thousands of other ER docs.

If they simply put something saying

"the following questions listed are OPTIONAL and allows us to better profile you so we can comply with woke government policies.
You are not required to answer them.
And yes, we want to know what kind of person you roll around naked with in bed.
We do not support answers such as threesomes, foursomes, or orgies. Please choose an accurate answer since those are not allowed"

I probably would have never posted this angry thread.

ABEM should know my name, address, what state licenses I hold, and that's about it.
10s of thousands of fellow ER docs are silently weeping on to their keyboard as they choose to not answer the question? Sure, bruh. And you know this isn't about who one sleeps with. They're not fishing for drama like yourself here.

Lighten up Francis, it was a joke.

Not only am I not EM but even if I were this wouldn't break my top 50 things I worry about.

Jesus Christ. I’m an ER doctor. I happen to be a cis/hetero white male ER doctor. Literally the easiest demographic in the world.

I couldn’t *imagine* being offended about an optional question regarding my pronouns.

There are a lot of marginalized groups in the world. I support them and don’t “punch down.”

They can ask what they want.. however the ED is different you dont get to choose your doc. This isnt like not wanting to see a male OB or have a female PCP. It’s optional and from that i would imagine you get 75% of the non straight folks answering. You get about 50% of the straight folks answering. From there they can conclude whatever they want.

I just got into an argument with my wife cause I said none of this matters. I dont have the time or energy to be bothered by this stuff. The ease of the ABEM “tests” is more of an issue as is the dropping pass rates of the first exams. But to each their own. I can understand both sides of the issue. I will simply not care.

For starters, it's completely irrelevant to the practice of EM. Whatever time they spend even messing with this stuff is better put towards producing quality physicians.

I am numb to these questions and have no idea what they do nor care what they do with this info. I just answer, move on, and doesn't register on my radar. We all literally answer dumb questions like sex/race/country of origin to most applications and I still have no idea why it matters my race/country of origin when I take out a mortgage or open a brokerage account.

I care more that it took me 3 months to get access to my ABEM account.
