There isn't a set format. Ask whatever comes to mind and whatever interests you, as well as items that you can't find immediate answers to from school websites, etc.

Also, if some answers you've received have been unclear, then try to get clarification on them. Also, use the time to get information that may clear up rumors you might have heard.

Be sure to talk to students if you can.

Ask them what they like/dislike about their school. This is a good question for any student you get a chance to talk to, not just the one who is conducting your tour.

Ask them whatever questions you have. There is no formula.

Personally, if I knew that you were asking questions just because these are the questions you were "told to ask" I would look down on you.

Point taken (and I'd agree with you there)...really wasnt looking for anything scripted. Just wanted to make sure I covered all the bases and asked the important questions.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

Tooth_paste,
You're clearly a person who worries too much!!! 🙂

Also, I wouldn't look down on a person asking a scripted question. Who cares if it's a scripted question, as long as it was a good question. If you came in with a scripted question, especially if it were specific to the school, then I'd think you were well prepared, and possibly I'd think highly of you for it. Plus, the same questions get used over and over again, so in a way, all the questions sound canned. But ultimately, whether you're looked down upon or up upon or in between, for the dental school tour, it ain't gonna matter!!! So, IMO, just ask anything you're curious about. If you don't have questions, no need to make one up either. The tour ain't about looking good. It's about seeing whether or not the school's a good fit for you (and not whether you're a good fit for the school).

A good question to ask students is what they wish they had known when they were starting dental school. You always get an interesting response, and it makes the students feel good too, that they're in a position to give someone else advice. 😉

Tooth paste, you are definitely over-reacting 🙂 If you're that interested in a dental school, then you should have tons of questions. Just watch what you eat day before the interview 🙂 and you'll be fine. This happened to my friend last year, that dude was looking for bathrooms all day instead of asking questions 😀 , but still got in!

One thing I enjoyed while on tour at my interviews was to stop students in the hall that were not part of the tour and asking them "How do you like it here?", "If you could start all over, would you choose this school again?" etc... This was a great way to get impromptu responses and a "feel" for the well being of the students.
