What do people generally bring to the interview? Specifically women? Briefcase? Purse? I heard I should bring copies of my application, personal statement, CV, etc...is this necessary? If so, it probably won't look good folded in my purse! I'm guessing a pad of paper and pen to take notes? Thanks!

I bring a zippered leather padfolio that's big enough to hold my car keys, phone, and a credit card (so I don't bring a purse at all). This is where I keep my CV copies and personal statement (which I haven't needed yet, but I think are good to keep on hand). So far both interviews that I've been on have provided a folder with their information. I like having the padfolio handy so that I can jot down any questions I have about the program and quickly reference it when I get the dreaded "So do you have any questions for me" at the end of the interview.

QFT. This is exactly what I brought (plus my wallet but I'm a guy so no purse). You can probably get away with less although I wouldn't recommend it. You should definitely not bring more.

Honestly I'd be surprised if it's that huge of a deal. It seems like most places provide you with a room where you can leave your stuff, so if you bring extra, it's not like you're carrying it in with you to the interviews.

I meant to carry with you all day long. Obviously people will be bringing briefcases and suitcases and the like. Just don't carry them around all day...you'll look like a d-bag.

Guys relax... You don't need to bring any part of your application as they have copies of it. I would suggest bringing a porfolio folder with space for a pen, a writing pad to write down questions you want to ask during the interview and/or information that you learn during interview day. Plus you can put the business cards that are sometimes given to you by residents and/or attendings during interview day into that same porfolia folder. I have a leather one and many people had a similar one on the interview trail. Just remember to smile a lot and have a positive attitude and let your natural personality take care of the rest. Good luck guys.
