I’m an incoming M1, starting in August. I graduated undergrad in April, and am currently backpacking through Europe for 2.5 months. I’ll have roughly a month of summer free time before I start in the fall. What do you wish you did, or what did you do, before you started med school that you would recommend?

It doesn't have to be hell. Do the most mundane things before you move. Go to the doctor if you have prescriptions, get copies of medical, dental records, get your teeth cleaned, get a great haircut that can last 6-8 weeks, find a new doctor, dentist, hairdresser, pharmacy. If you are still getting relevant email to your school email, get those emails changed. Get your car tuned up (at least an oil change), buy tires that are appropriate for your new environment. Visit old friends and family, especially if they are older. Even if you come back regularly, you won't have time to see everybody.

Considering the title and the date on which this was posted, this thread wasn't about what I thought it'd be....

Med school definitely isn’t hell! It’s been (for me & my group of lifestyle oriented friends) a really relaxing time actually. Was in bed by 11 every night, travelled on weekends and did just fine in classes.

My advice is to find a hobby you can pursue and make it a priority

2.5 months backpacking through Europe sounds like a dream already for most people! Do whatever your budget can afford!

Med school really isn't the hell that people think it is. It's really like high school all over again.. wake up, go to class, study, sleep, party, repeat. Only this time you can legally drink. I had plenty of time in med school to do activities, trips, etc (just not the cash).

2.5 months through Europe sounds like a great time to thot it up before school. Thotiana!
