Starting school in Nevada in July 2018 and school does offer health insurance for around $5500/year but is it possible to get a cheaper from somewhere. I'm getting off of my parents insurance after couple months once school starts. What will be my best options if someone can tell? Any current TUNCOM student who is in same situation?
Thanks for the feedback.

Have you looked at healthcare.gov? You'll probably get a hefty subsidy given your lack of income. ~$450/mo definitely sounds a bit high to me unless it's a very comprehensive plan with low limits.

One thing you should be aware of is that if your school uses some sort of vendor/clearinghouse for insurance, they may not accept your current situation because it will be expiring before the year is up. I know my school's vendor was unwilling to accept my employer's 6 months of coverage after I left for school because the term required for the policy was 12 months. Your situation may be different, but just pay attention to the fine print.

I would definitely look into your state exchange. With no income it's possible you would qualify for state Medicaid. That coverage is free, but not and great for a safety-net. Then, you can use the premium savings to pay for routine care and office visits if you ever need.

Make sure that you are permitted by your school to purchase individual health insurance. My school had a policy that we had to take their plan unless we were covered by our parents (for <26 yo), spouses work insurance, or VA benefits. Double check that you can purchase your own before you commit to another insurance.

My school didn’t have that policy. How weird.

Approved. Thanks for all the help.
