Why should I do during the summer? I am volunteering and shadowing. Anything else I should do or try to find?

I screwed up this semester. I screwed up my A's in all my classes and ended with 2 b+ and 2 A-. i feel like the biggest ****** ever.

Nothing wrong with those grades. Just keep things going. The more volunteering you do, the better. Good luck.

volunteering, research, shadowing...idk whatever you want!

I couldn't find a job at a hospital so I plan to just volunteer, shadow, and study for the MCAT. What else should I do?

I think that will be enough to keep you busy. Try and find some time to relax as well.

go work at a summer camp. hella good time. i recommend camp ozark in arkansas

Getting a job never hurts either...the summer before my junior year I spent working full-time (granted, in a lab) and studying for the MCAT at night. It was great, and I'd do it that way again in a heartbeat

Seriously?! When are you planning on taking the MCAT? Are you really studying 10 months in advance?

He's probably taking it in August (as in, the summer before junior year). That's what I did...

I will be applying to medical school this year. I currently have a 3.5 overall gpa and a 3.3 science GPA. This summer I am shadowing and volunteering at a hospital to gain clinical experience. I am also studying up for the MCAT. What else should I do to prepare myself for completing the application. Should I be thinking about my personal statement this summer?

i'm taking it next spring. i havent taken physics yet. I have been doing research at school since the summer after my freshman year. I wanted to be back home so I tried to find a job but I havent been able to yet (at a hospital). Where can I find a research job? I have googled clinical research in texas and there were several places. Do you think I could get a job in such places?

are you applying this summer or next summer?

I did shadowing...like extreme over 200 hours of shadowing haha.

Think about who you want to write letters. Keep up ECs.

would getting a job as a summer camp counselor be good or a child center team meber where I organize events for children for leadership? If i get such a part time job along with volunteering, shadowing, and mcat studying will this be good for the summer.

One suggestion I would make for summers to really boost your resume is getting your EMT-B certification. I don't know about other states but, in KY, they have excel programs for the summer alone to get the certification. You will have more training then a first year medical student, and it looks awesome on your resume. Also, you get a lot of connects and it is considered clinical experience. Lastly, an EMT job provides you with the opportunity to do volunteer work. Your schools and county offer opportunities for you to work volunteer with your certification on a need to need basis for events such as concerts, sporting events, etc.

😍😍

i'm also a rising junior.

i'm taking classes to boost my sGPA, so you should have more time to do this stuff than i do.

i'm in a volunteer program at the hospital.
also going to the animal shelter whenever i have free time to volunteer (its a really nice option because i can show up whenever i want.. unlike hospital volunteering where i'm on a strict schedule).
i'm meeting with a professor tomorrow afternoon because i might have just gotten a research position with him for the summer and hopefully continuing next school year too.

lastly, shadowing. i haven't done any shadowing at all, but this morning i got a phone call from my neurologist saying i can start shadowing there next friday afternoon.

i don't have anything else super interesting, sorry, but i think this is just the basic stuff, and you can make your summer worthwhile as far as helping out your med-school application.

i'm not studying for the MCAT at all though... i'll be taking it NEXT spring/early summer so it'd be pointless. i'm probably going to start in december or something like that.
