I am essentially in wait-list limbo for an MD acceptance with no interviews left. I'm about to go study abroad where I had planned to complete my last class to graduate. However, I just found out that my transcripts would not transfer until as late as September which means I would not have my degree until then. Technically, I have completed all the pre-requisite courses for the MD schools, but if I receive an acceptance, would I be able to attend despite not officially having a degree when their classes start in August? If not, I need to find an online class at a CC to take or else I might be in trouble.

Tl;dr School counselors are misinformed. Can I attend med school in August if I don't get my degree until September?

Tl;dr School counselors don't know anything. Can I attend med school in August if I don't get my degree until September?

Generally, you need to have a degree in hand before matriculating. Different schools may give different allowances, so best thing to do is speak to the school's admissions office once accepted about what you need to do. I don't believe a school would be so rash as to rescind your acceptance due to some paperwork. If you didn't get a degree, however, that would be a different story.

There was a thread about this last week I think. Or at least similar. When will your classes be done? By May? How long will you be gone? Is this a summer course?

Classes will be from 2/13 to 5/22. For some reason it could take up to 90 days for grades to arrive to my home university.

Unfortunately, no one really advised that studying abroad was inadvisable. I need to decide now if I should sign up (and shell out money) for an online class at a CC, or find out if Virginia Commonwealth University has that 90 unit policy. Are you aware if this is the case or if there is someone I can ask without risking my acceptance? Thanks!

If it's a VCU question, then maybe @Dean Mission can shed some light on it.
