I finally tried to check my rates on loan websites and I don't pre-qualify for any of them bc don't have a co-signer. genuinely have no idea what to do now. my school is $115k/year and not offering any financial aid at all. i'm signed up to take the max 50k of federal loans but still need the other 65k. there is nobody in my life that would say yes to putting their name on my massive med school debt/be able to co-sign for me, so am i just screwed? what do i even do?

it sucks that i did all this work and got into a great school and now i'm questioning if it's even a possibility for me at all because i didn't realize I needed a co-signer for this. my undergrad degree was pretty much entirely pre-med focused and is useless on its own, so even if I were to pick another career path (which I absolutely do NOT want to do, but what else is there to do at this point?) I'd have to get some sort of additional education. i'm 23, currently in my gap year, was planning to start in august and have already signed a lease. pardon my language, but...****.

update on this in case anyone else has my weird specific situation - none of the lenders were prequalifying me because I changed my name 4 years ago and apparently the credit reporting companies never heard about it (despite changing it with my banks and social security lmao)
when i put in my old name it works just fine, but now I'm waiting for equifax/transunion etc to update my name bc i need my actual current legal name on the loan application grrr

Oh wow... how did you find this out? Does your old name "work" when you do a credit score check?

Yeah my old name shows my actual score when I check. Found out because thankfully one of the lenders I tried to prequailfy with sent an email telling me I was rejected because my credit score was 0, so I knew something was definitely wrong bc that's not even possible!
