hello, I just want to see what people usually do if they have been rejected from optometry schools but wish to reapply and are looking to do something during the meantime. any ideas? i have heard some go for a masters in vision science or bio; or look into becoming an optician but what are other options?

thank you🙂

Schools will tell you the part of your application that wasn't strong enough. People will usually spend their year off strengthening that part, whether it's retaking the OAT, strengthening GPA with a post bacc or master's, or doing more shadowing.

How can anyone not get in? If you apply to 5-6 schools you are guaranteed admission. In 2012 there was 1-1 ratio of unique applicants and seats.

Assuming you have good stats. I know plenty of re-applicants who haven't been able to get in.

I would call the program that you got rejected from, and see what you were lacking in your application. kind of what casandanova was saying! whether it be strengthening your gpa/oat or experience/shadowing! 👍

I was rejected last cycle. They told me to bring up my OAT scores, particularly my chemistry scores. My physics score was low as well but they didn't mention it. I asked if I needed to retake classes or to enroll in a MS program and they approved of the MS program but they were more concerned with my OAT scores.

I ended up retaking the OAT, bringing up all my scores A LOT (Both my organic and general chem scores jumped up 60 points each) and I enrolled in a MS program and I'm currently sitting at a 4.0 in the program.

I have an interview at that school again Monday. I hope I get in this time! This really is what I want to do 🙂

Update:
I got in 🙂
