One of the benefits of applying early is that you have a better chance of landing interviews. If you have been verified and have not received invitations by now, mid-September, you should add more schools ASAP or consider seriously consider how to make yourself more competitive for a future cycle (exception: those verified within last 7-10 days). If you have not verified, you still might consider adding more schools to increase your chances. Most MD/PhD programs have already selected at least 1/3 to 1/2 of all their interview slots by now. Adding more schools allows you to have more chances for the remaining interview slots. If you are overly competitive (i.e.: MCAT > 36 and GPA > 3.80) and have not been verified as of now, you might not need to do this. PM me if you need specific advice. If you have been verified for a while but have only received 3 or less interviews, also consider adding a few more schools.

Verification can be delayed if your transcripts have not arrived to AMCAS. Review of your application by Admission Committees can be delayed if your letters have not been received. Secondary applications are clearly important for most schools (mine does not have one - a bonus). Again PM me for specific advice.

Good luck!
