Here it goes-- I have been doing so so though out my undergrad, however, Here is my problems. My overall GPA is a 3.48. My other GPA is 3.7. My Science GPA is a 3.1 right now. I am a philosophy major and have decided I really want to go ot medical school. I respect all of you so much!!! I have completed all the Pre Reqs for med scholl except my second year of O'chem which I will finish in the Fall. I am also taking the late August MCAT. I am currently retaking both Ochem 1 and 2. I recieved all A or B+ in my other sciences, but D+ in both my Gen Chems. I am really going to do better this time around. My question is: Is there any possible way that I could apply this coming summer still? Would it be better for me to turn in my application early despite the D+'s and just tell them I am retaking, or would it be best to wait till those classes post in August? And Finally, do I have a chance? Has anyone gotten in with similar grades.
PS- I have been averaging 26 on my practice MCAT's and have tons of extra service and shadowing and all the good stuff. Sorry if I spelled stuff wrong. THANKS

I think you would be better off waiting to apply and retake the classes.

I would not go with this advice.

The courses can be retaken over the summer and during the fall semester. The application can have listed that the courses are pending. The application should go ahead and get turned in since the stats are adequate for a large number of schools. The chem classes need to be passed prior to matriculation, but this is not mandatory prior to acceptance.

If all your other prereq's are A's and B's... this should send a strong message that you are capeable of the work.

Personally, I'd submit the app, and bust Gen Chem 1 and 2 out this summer. Quite frankly, you'll have the new grades submitted before your MCATs even hit.

:luck: Best of luck! :luck:

Can I do that? Can I apply and just post them as pending? Does it still make me list the past grades on AMCOM? Thanks

Yes.

how did you do so poorly in Gen Chem? You probably won't get in because of your low science GPA and your bad grades in Gen Chem regardless if you retake them. Sorry, to break the bad news to you but I'm tired of hearing people be way too optimistic on this forum.. Try Chiropractic school.

Troll,

I recieved a C in Gen Chem Lecture & Lab, as well as MANY other courses. I have never retaken a class.

I was admitted to 4 schools, and interviewed at 5.

Let us all know when you become a doctor so we can tell everyone where NOT to go. Your comments are way out of line. I understand being helpful, but your comments were just negative. That is not needed here.

I had several C's and a D+ (which I retook). I was accepted to every school I applied to. I got a 26 on the one 1/2 length practice MCAT I took, but got a 32 on the real thing. Apply and focus on your strengths! Don't let other people dissuade you from your goal and do your best. Good luck!
