This thread is more for my fiance' than me. She went to a local university and graduated with a bachelors in health promotion with the idea to go on to become a physical therapist. I am proud of her she actually graduated with a 3.8 or 3.9 she was on the deans list, summa cum lade or something and also was acknowledged as the 1 outstanding student amongst the class. (they gave her a special plaque showing this nomination). That was a little over a year ago. Fast forward to today. She is not sure if she wants to pursue the Physical therapy anymore because she says the curriculum is very difficult and we plan on having kids soon and she says she will not be able to juggle both. I know this is her goal and I would like for her to pursue her goal. In the meantime she cannot find a job (full time) with her degree apparently no one really cares about this degree. She has been searching ever since she graduated and has come up with nothing. What do you guys think of the situation? Is the curriculum that difficult that you could not juggle kids and school? is there something we are missing not being able to find a job with a bachelors in health promotion?

I say go for it! I wouldn't suggest entering school with a newborn or having a baby while in school, but from what I have researched it is totally possible to be a parent while persuing a DPT. I'm getting ready to start school in the fall with a two year old toddler and a very understanding husband. It will just take a lot of focus on time management in order to get all the studying in as well as family time, but in the end I will be doing what I love and have a career that will enable me to devote time to my family. If she wants to be a pt and have kids I feel like it would be best/easiest to do it either before kids or while they are still young enough and won't remember all the long hours she spent studying. Instead they will remember the hugs and cuddles she took the time to give them.

I wish I had pursued PT before kids. It was a light thought in my mind but not a definite. Now I'm starting school in the fall with 2 (3 yr old and 1 yr old). How old are you guys? If you are young , maybe consider waiting just a few more years? Bebatse after she is a PT she could take time off. Or work part time. Or weekends. You could even plan up get pregnant the last year in school so baby comes after graduation. If she has plans of working, I say do school now.

How important is DPT to your fiancee? DO NOT have kids before going into graduate school. She has already said she cannot juggle both. You two will have to decide. I think kids can wait. How old are you all if you don't mind me asking?
I was 25 when going into DPT program. My wife was pregnant, I worked part-time, volunteered at our church. First year of grad school- first boy was born. Second year of grad school- 2nd boy was born, Third year of grad school- no boys/girls born. Was it is hard? Yes, but with God all things are possible. Just know, that it will be difficult, but I am currently working and loving my job. My wife stays home with our 3 boys (Yes, we just had another one🙂. I know its a little different since I am the male, but just wanted to let you know it is possible...recommended... Well, that's ultimately your choice. Best regards!
