So here's my story! I applied to ten schools this cycle and received four interviews. However, the interviews were the end of January and end of February. My DAT scores are on the weak side with a 17 AA, but my GPA is 3.64 sci and 3.6 overall. Also, I have tons of dental experience working as a hygienist for over 3 years and a bunch of EC's. I know I have to raise my DAT if I don't get in this cycle, but I want to take a Kaplan course. So here is the dilemma...I got waitlisted at one of the schools definitely, didn't hear back from two of them yet (just interviewed at NYU Feb 29) and believe I will be waitlisted at the other school because the class is filled. I don't want to put out the 1400 on a Kaplan course if I still have a shot of getting in this cycle, but the course available starts March 18th. Also, I know some seats will probably open up at the one school, but I can't bank on getting one of those seats.

What should I do?? WAITING IS SO FRUSTRATING!!

Well, you have a little bit of time before the Kaplan starts. Maybe you will hear something. Is there a refund or partial refund within the first few weeks of the program? Also, have you taken a Kaplan course before? I think they let you repeat, but not sure about that.

I did a Kaplan online last summer. It was moderately helpful. So, that is another option for you if you want some structure to your studying and you can start that anytime.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm waiting on USC, but should probably start studying again for the DAT.

Hope you hear some good news soon.

I say wait! And for now, just buy the $65 Kaplan book that they have for the DAT. Remember that you can submit your AADSAS without your DAT score. I know that Kaplan has online courses which are pretty much like their regular courses, only you watch the lectures on TV. When I took Kaplan, I didn't really benefit from the lecture course; it was the material that helped me. It is worth considering just doing the online course. If this is a viable option, call Kaplan and ask them if you can start after a course has already started or if you have to start at the same time as courses (hopefully not). I hope this helps.

But yes, I would say wait for a little bit at least (like a month). I think that you have a decent chance of being accepted this cycle. 🙂

I think I need to take the Kaplan class course for the regimen to study. I know I won't follow the online schedule. I never took a course before, but registered for the online course and did not have time to do it because of my school classes. I am going to South America in July and the next Kaplan course is June. I wanted to be done with everything before then so this Kaplan course seems like my only option. It is so hard to begin to study while waiting!! SO ANNOYING!

I took the Kaplan course and my opinion is that it is NOT worth the $1300!!! It's an okay course, but way overpriced.

I wouldn't take the Kaplan class...it's waaayy too expensive and from what I've heard it's not worth it. Buy the DAT Kaplan book though on any bookstore and go through it at least a couple of times...just the book worked for me. The Kaplan book, commitment and perseverance will do!

I admire your tenacity but....with 4 interviews I'm not sure if I would even bother. Having 4 interviews....you are in amazing standing, im really envious.

you can start kaplan class, it is refundable, i believe 100% before 1st class, 75% before 2nd, and 50% before 3rd (no refund after that). but your particular situation, i'd suggest study with books first until you get definite answers from schools. you can always commit to a class later on.
