Hello everyone,

I need some help w/my current situation and next plan....

I graduated May '10, w/ sGPA 3.1, cGPA 3.4, non sci 4.0

My DATs weren't good- 18/18/19 highest of 22 in RC

I applied to 10 schools- and interviewed @ my state school MD- but I'm pretty sure they are full/are waitlisting people from here on out.

I am taking 2 courses right now- "informal post bacc" i suppose...which are transferable into a masters prog- I was admitted to a masters prog. non thesis biology which my acceptance is valid for a year- so I didn't start it just yet.

Anyway- I know I have to retake the DATs, so I'm planning to study for 2-3 months and apply in June [this upcoming cycle]..... will As in my courses [upper biology] and a better DAT be enough?

Should I enroll into the masters program? I don't want to be told "finish you masters then apply" thats 2 more years and I REALLY don't want to do that.
🙁

Advice appreciated...😕🙁🙁

2 A's isn't going to budge your sGPA. maybe 20-30 credits will tho.

As far as DAT goes.... it depends on what you mean by "better". If 19-20 range, you are still at a disadvantage.... if 21-23 range, thats a different story.

IMO ofc, informal post-bacc is your cheapest and best option. All you need to do is raise that sGPA by earning more As.

I always advice people that if post-bacc is an option... then look into it before venturing off into the more expensive and commitment-requiring masters.

well- ive already taken many biology courses offered at the ug level at my school- since ive graduated- i'd have to pay graduate tuition to be a special student and just take courses- grad level biols
and even if the class is ug i have to pay 467/credit, so its just the same amount as enrolling in a masters prog.
and in terms of my science gpa i calculated that it does bring it up , its slight but makes a little better.

I think your GPAs are fine. Re-take the DAT and apply early if this cycle doesn't work out for you.

Good luck

I don't know whether to start my Masters this fall......? or to....do what? work?

Also- if u have ALOT of hours as a shadow/volunteer/assistant or w.e..... do you need to do more during your "off year"? will it improve my app at all?

Does my interview mean anything? It kinda has to right....? I just don't know what to think or feel at this point.

If only the choice was yours to make.Of course, you don't have to do that but it may come at a high price.

retake and see what you get. then from there worry about the masters and if you want to reapply again this cycle. I know people who got in with your gpa into a few dental schools because they had pretty good DAT scores (21 aa) and try to do well on the science portion of the DAT. good luck
