Hi everyone,
I am a Statistics major at UCLA and it is my last year in college. I was not planning on becoming a pre-med until the second to last quarter of graduation.I transferred from a community college and didn't take any of the bio/chem courses so I am planning on taking those at a community college after graduation.
I did take the first sequence of Physics (for scientists and engineers) with an "A" at my community college prior to transfer and therefore I am currently taking the second sequence (Physics 1B).
Recently, I found out that my school offers a physics sequence for life science majors (not calculus based) which was way easier than the engineering physics sequence. It is also the physics sequence tailored for pre-med students.
I went to the physics department and was told that the first sequence (mechanics) of physics I took at cc would be okay to continue the life sequence physics courses(Physics 5B, 5C). However, I can't take 5C straight from 1B (topics of 5B and 1B was different). It was my fault for not asking earlier.
Anyways, my current physics sequence is heavily calculus based, and the last physics class I took was 4 years ago, and the last calculus class I took was 3 years ago (both at community college). Therefore, it isn't incredibly impossible (I think I can get at least a B), its just that I am stressing so hard studying for the midterms (which I don't think I did super well on) when I can just get the easy A taking the other sequence. I also don't want to stress so much next quarter for the third physics class (Physics 1C) and the infamous lab class for the scientist/engineering sequence (which has a horrible curve) when I can just take the easier physics sequence.
Currently I have the options to either drop my current physics course with a W or change from letter grade to pass/no pass, or just take it for a letter grade.
Regardless of decision, I am going to take the two life science physics (5B and 5C) next quarter (which was possible to take concurrently) for the A's. It was only three more units (5+5) compared to taking Physics 1C(5) + a separate 2 unit lab. The life science physics sequence has labs (0 unit) incorporated with the lecture.
I just wanted to ask if you guys think (1) admissions would look down upon having a W on the transcript in this specific case and gets A's both class next quarter. (2) Do you guys recommend taking it pass/nopass instead? (3) Just take it for letter grade and probably get a B (maybe higher).
I can take it for a letter grade, try really hard (get between a B (more probable) and an A) and still take the other two life sequence physics courses next quarter. Its just that my science GPA will drop if I do get the B and my science GPA is not high (About 3.5; goal: 3.7+) because my major classes count into the science gpa. I also do have about three W's during community college (which has a good reason), none during UCLA.
Any response will be thankful.
