Hello all,
I am a first year internal medicine resident, doing a prelim year at my medical school's institution. Last year I matched in anesthesia at one of the top programs, after deciding against EM late in the game. Now I am having second thoughts on my choice. I had pretty good scores 228/230 on the steps, was AOA, and in the top quarter of my class. I'm thinking of trying to switch to EM next year, but I don't know if it's feasible. I think I would like to stay at my current institution, but I'm not sure how that's going to go over. Any suggestions from those with similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. i.e., How do you go about applying/getting letters when your a resident?

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas you guys may have.

I bet you could pull it off.

One of my fellow residents left his Anesthesiology program after his intern year. He had no problem making the switch...

Hello,
I am also deliberating making the switch - however, mine would be from surgery to EM. I would like to stay at my current program, but don't know how feasible it would be or how I would be treated by others. Who should I contact first? Do I go through eras again and just not tell anyone?

Carter did it, you can do it.

Yeah, Carter did it, but he had to endure a lot of crap from his attending. I guess I won't be able to avoid some amount of ridicule from my fellow residents. I have just come to the realization that surgery is not what I want to do. It's really depressing me.
