Currently and MSIV applying for optho residency. Had subpar step 1 of 230, took step 2 in middle of august and bombed it 212!!🙁.....Did not autorelease my scores, but did put down that i took the test in august on my ERAS. My question is when do i release my score? Is there anyway i can do it after the match comes out? B/c i feel as though i am doomed if programs see this step 2 score. Any comments will help.

How important of a role do you think the score will play once I get an interview? And, if I say I did worse and have a legitimate reason will that help in anyway? Is there anyway I can avoid them seeing my scores?? Sorry I am freaking out:scared:

Scores matter for high-competition residencies like Optho.

In general, if they dont ask, dont bring it up. DO NOT highlight your faults. If they do ask, make sure you have a good explanation. NOT excuses, but an answer, and a thing you learned from it.

In reality, not knowing the rest of your application, you really need to consider having a backup. Consider doing categorical spots at the places you are applying for prelims. Unless you are AOA with all honors, a dad in Optho, and super letters, you might be held back by your scores. There's always the research year off, should optho be your only option.
