what should one expect on your first year as a pharmacy student? i've never worked in a pharmacy before. would this make things more difficult for me? would it have been easier if I would have worked as a pharm tech?

Lots of studying... no life @ least at ACP

it's difficult but not impossible. keep on top of the material! I can't stress that enough, if you get behind it is not fun trying to catch up. Don't wait until the last minute for anything, you never know what other tests/projects might spring up and get in the way of that last minute study session you had planned. There will be a lot of weeks were you have multiple tests to study for, but as long as you're organized about it you shouldn't have a huge problem finding time for them all.

working in a pharmacy definitely helped with certain aspects like recognizing medications and it gave me a head start in law but it wasn't really necessary. I had plenty of friends who had not worked at a tech before our first year and they did well.

just stick with it, know what study habits work for you, and have fun with it. definitely don't stress out too much, its not worth it. if you keep a study schedule and don't get behind you'll be fine. Good luck!

At the beginning of each semester I've always had good intentions of reading ahead before each class starts, which I usually end up not doing. My P1 year starts next Monday with one full orientation week, and I plan to ask each professor what topic we will working on the first real day of classes. Has anyone applied this technique from the very beginning? And have you felt in control and organized the whole semester by doing so?

Hopefully, this isn't getting too far off topic from OPs questions.

Lots of studying. I'm in accelerated program though and we're on the quarter system which makes it doubly difficult. The work is definitely manageable if you have a good work ethic and stay on top of it, you do not want to fall behind! So almost 1 quarter down in P-1 and I work and study constantly but like I said it's a very rigorous program. A word of advice for those starting soon if you're not working yet then you may want to hold off at least for your first semester until you get the hang of things.
Here in GA it's a bit more difficult because we have to get so many hours outside of the school's program in order to get licensed and it has to be on our vacations (since we don't have summers off). They dont call it accelerated for nothing!!
