I was put "on hold for an interview" for both UCSF and UCSD (rejected by Davis 🙁 ). I know these are just nicer ways of being rejected, however, I still maintain my minimal amount of hope that someday I will be interviewed. Wondering if anyone can share the statistics or experience of previous years "On Hold" UC applicants who finally got interviewed or accepted?

I was put on hold at UCSD. I too wanted to know what that meant.

actually a hold for interview is great for UCSF.....since they have clearly outright rejected pple..

and I heard the same for UCSD, that they might interview pple later on...

Hold is not a bad thing. A rejection is the worst. A hold can be wild card, especially if they say you are on "hold" after the interview which is quite different. If you get in the latter situation rather than the former, post again and I'll share my experiences last year.

Thanks Watcha for the info.....Do you know if the people you mentioned do any thing special to get out of the "on hold" list? (Like keeping in touch with the admissions office? application updates?)

I had a friend last year, who was placed "on hold for interview"...and then later in march he got an interview offer, and he got accepted to UCSD one week before the school started!

Umm...he told me he sent updated transcripts around February and March....he had a 3.95 so I think it looked impressive 😀

When I interviewed at UCSD, they told us that if we were waitlisted for acceptance, a phone call telling them that UCSD was your top choice might encourage them to move you around in the list (later in the 'season' - April-June).

Not sure if something like this might help your interview waitlist situation in Feb or March, but it might.
