What to give to LOR writer

After receiving one, is it necessary to give something to your LOR writer to show that you're thankful?

Yeah, definitely a thank you card, but i have a friend who bought all his letter writers a nice box of chocolates. Nice idea, but I think it's a little weird to give your professors chocolate. He also toyed with the idea of flowers, which would have been even weirder.
