What to include in a 'LOR' packet?

I'm starting to put together little packets to give to professors I am wanting LOR's from, and I'm not sure what I should include in them. So far I'm putting in a picture of myself, a copy of my transcript, and an addressed stamped envelope. What else should I be including?

Many will also ask for a resume and a copy of your DAT score sheet. And by many, I mean 1 out of the 4 I asked lol. So it really depends. If they really know you, all they may need is information on where to send the letter. If they don't know you too well, they may need your resume and more information about you. You can submit it as you have, and if they need more, they'll contact you back about it.

From my experience with asking professors for LORs, you should have the following ready just in case they ask for it:

-CV (don't forget to mention class/year you took the professor's class)
-resume
-transcript
-statement of purpose (if they ask or you want them to know more about you)
-DAT score sheet
-any additional forms they might need (e.g. if you're using a letter storage service)

A couple of profs that I'm asking haven't had me in a class for a year. They remember me, but when they're getting 100+ requests for letters, it's nice to have a picture to look at, and a little reminder of what kind of student I am.

some professors are very busy and don't remember you so it's good to give them more information.

That's true in some cases. But there are professors out there with hundreds of students and i doubt they'll remember each one of them that well, especially at public colleges where classes can reach up to 600 students. Even if you get to know them and they do remember/know you, providing them with more information will always help them. I mean, you do want them to write you a good LOR. 😉

For one of my professors that I asked, he was genuinely interested in knowing more about me and asked me to send him all my CV, resume and statement because he wanted to help me write a good LOR. (He even treated me to lunch!)
