3rd year here. I'm starting to look at hospitals to do audition rotations. What would ya'll suggest including in an e-mail to the residency director? What are some things I should know about the hospital before I decide if I want to do a SUB-I there? I know this seems dumb but I have a few ?'s and feel like I should be asking more. thanks!

I'm not sure why you need to email the PD. He/she likely has nothing to do with the away rotation logistics. If it's merely in an effort to get noticed, I'd suggest waiting and emailing the PD shortly before or during the away rotation and setting up an in-person meeting.

If you are trying to decide whether or not the residency program in question is a suitable "target" program, I'd suggest a few things first.
1) Make sure you do your research. Don't waste the PD's time with questions that can be answered by reading the program's website or FREIDA
2) If the questions are about the logistics of the rotation itself, or about how they select applicants for the rotation, those questions would be more appropriate for the rotation coordinator.
3) Talk to students at your own school in the year above you. They can likely give you feedback on their away rotation experiences.
4) Talk to an advisor in the field you are going into at your school. They can give you ideas about where you will be a competitive applicant and what the "top" programs are in that field. This can in turn guide your selection process. In some cases, they may even have a connection that could be used to help you line up a desirable rotation.

Bottom line, only email the PD if you have some particular reason to, with questions that cannot be answered elsewhere. Emailing them at this stage won't impress them or help your chances at getting in, and is by no means expected.

thanks sorry I should have been more clear. I meant about e-mailing the person who sets you up with audition rotations
